Just over a week ago, as part of the Fiesta Days celebration, the Kamas Valley History Group put on its first wagon tour of historic Kamas.
The group, led by Group Chair, Joe Frazier, secured the loan of 3 wagons, and together with three docents, successfully toured over 100 people around some of the historic landmarks of our beautiful city. I say some, since we wanted to keep the others for future tours.
We’d like to thank the following for making this first attempt such a success;
Our docents, Joe Frazier, and Deborah and Sean Lambert.
Our drivers, Daniel Neeleman, Tim Butikofers and Paul Wynn
Our wagons, donated by Thayne Stembridge and Daniel Neeleman/Ballerina Farms and Kamas City
Our archivist/historian Bev Bemis
And finally Donna Ure who helped visitors on and off the wagons.
Several others helped to put this together, including Steve Mitchell, who did a fantastic job coordinating all the Fiesta Days events and Kamas City who make Fiesta Days possible.
Any errors in the script, in the true spirit of team, are a joint responsibility, and any help you can provide in clarifying the accuracy of Kamas history is always welcome and encouraged.
We retained several of the “place maps” which were loaned to every visitor, to help guide them on the tour, and if you’d like one as a souvenir, please reach out to us.
Once again, thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. We truly appreciate your efforts.
We will take on board the criticisms we’ve received to make next year’s tour even better. For example, we may run the tours in the morning, in case the weather is as hot as it was on the day. We’d welcome any feedback you may have, and as history is not an exact science, we’re sure we got some things wrong, so please refer any comments or corrections to our team via the email and FB Messenger contacts provided.
